The Australian state of New South Wales has announced a crackdown on motorcycle gang violence.

A special anti-gang police squad is to be doubled in size.

The move comes in response to an incident at Sydney Airport on Sunday, when a man was bludgeoned to death in front of waiting passengers by a group of at least 15 men. The brawl is said to have been part of an ongoing feud between two motorcycle gangs, the Hells Angels and the Comancheros. It follows a spate of shootings in Sydney, also believed to be gang-related.

New South Wales Premier Nathan Rees said he was "sickened and appalled" by the airport killing. The state of South Australia has strict laws outlawing biker gangs, and Mr Rees says he will consider the introduction of similar legislation in New South Wales.

New South Wales authorities have been forced to admit that they have not yet viewed CCTV footage from yesterday's fatal brawl at Sydney Airport because of problems downloading the footage.
