Police will make a last-ditch attempt tomorrow to ban one of Europe’s largest biker festivals, alleging that it is a front for organised crime and a flashpoint for violence.
The Bulldog Bash, which has been staged annually at Long Marston, Warwickshire, for more than 20 years, is organised by the British arm of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.
This year’s four-day event, starting on August 6, is expected to draw a crowd of 15,000, and is due to be headlined by Motörhead, the heavy metal group. It will also feature drag racing, a custom bike show and three days of “hard partying”.
But senior officers will ask Stratford-upon-Avon council to revoke the event’s ten-year licence on the ground that it is “associated with serious crime”. Their main concern is the potential for an increase in the lethal rivalry between the Hells Angels and the American Outlaws Association.
