The city of Myrtle Beach has announced they would no longer host motorcycle rallies, and has been spreading the word that the 2009 rallies have been cancelled. The fact is, the city of Myrtle Beach never sponsored the rallies to begin with, and have no authority to cancel them except within their own city limits. Myrtle Beach is only one of about 11 towns along the South Carolina coast known as the Grand Strand where the Spring and Fall rallies are held each year. Unfortunately, most people generally refer to the Grand Strand as "Myrtle Beach," so when the city of Myrtle Beach says no more rallies and bikers not welcome, it's natural to think they are speaking on behalf of the entire Grand Strand. They are NOT!

The truth is, the upcoming May rally is on! From Little River down to Georgetown, the "Myrtle Beach" rally, better to be known as Cruisin' the Grand Strand 2009, will be happening as usual, welcoming bikers as always to the same great venues rally-goers know and love. Just be sure to stay outside the Myrtle Beach city limits, as they have made it clear bikers are NOT welcome and they WILL come down on you!
